Glass Picture

A nice table-piece or gift. Very realistic. This project upcycles plastic covers and old tissue boxes.

Materials
  • Box-like plastic cover x 2 (we used the cover that comes with led boxes)

  • See-through piece of plastic (we got this plastic from an egg carton)

  • Toothpicks

  • Liquid glue

  • Scissors

  • Washable marker and a pencil

  • Old tissue box

  • Any picture you want in glass form

Instructions

1.  Peel off the plastic cover and rip off any extra paper that comes with the plastic. Do this for both plastic covers.

2. Trace one of the covers onto the see-through plastic using a washable marker. Cut around the marker lines.

3. Lay the see-through plastic on top of the picture. We are using a picture of the CN tower but you could use any picture (faces       work especially well). Make sure the part of the picture you are interested in fits in the marker lines.

4. Put some liquid glue on a scrap piece of paper.

5. Dip the toothpick in the glue and then trace the picture on the see-through plastic. Take your time and trace all the detail for       best results.

6. After you’ve traced everything, leave to dry. In the meantime, trace one of the plastic covers on the side of an old tissue box         using the washable marker. Add a little box below the trace also. Do the same on the other side of the tissue box with the             other plastic cover.

7. Cut out the two traces.

8. On the backside of both tissue box pieces, trace the bottom boundary of the plastic cover with washable marker.

9. Then flip the plastic cover over and trace the box part of the cover using a pencil.

10. Cut out the rectangle you just drew; you may need adult help.

11. Do step 9 and 10 for both tissue box pieces. You should now have two frame-like pieces.

12. Fold the pieces at the marker line you drew as shown below.

13. The glue from step 5 should have dried by now. Take the see-through plastic off the picture.

When you hold your plastic piece up to the light, you should see the picture.

14. Put glue on the frame part of both plastic covers.

Then join the plastic covers and the see-through plastic as shown below.

15. Slip on the tissue-box pieces you made in step 12 as shown below.

You should get something that looks like this:

16. Glue the tissue box flaps to any background you like...

...or use them as a stand.
