Mini Treasure Chest

A handmade wooden treasure chest which can be used to store anything from small toys to jewelry. This project upcycles old/scrap wood and left-over wood stain.

Materials
  • A-30 cm x 12 cm (Length x Width) piece of wood x 2 (Preferred thickness 3/4 of an inch )

  • B-16.5 cm x 12 cm (Length x Width) piece of wood x 2 (Preferred thickness 3/4 of an inch )

  • C-30 cm x 20.5 cm (Length x Width) piece of wood (Preferred thickness 0.5 cm to 1 cm)

  • D-30 cm x 3 cm (Length x Width) piece of wood x 2 (Preferred thickness 3/4 of an inch )

  • E-16.5 cm x 6 cm (Length x Width) piece of wood x 2 (Preferred thickness 3/4 of an inch )

  • F-30 cm x 4 cm (Length x Width) piece of wood x 6 (Preferred thickness 1 cm )

  • G-Mini Cabinet Drawer Butt Hinge x 2

Lid of the Chest
Instructions

1.​ Cut out all the pieces of wood specified above.

    Optional- Stain the pieces to the color of your choice.

Bottom of the Chest

2. To construct the bottom of the chest, make a rectangle using the wood pieces A and B like shown below. Nail or staple the            pieces of wood.

3. Choose which side you want to be the base of the chest.  Then take piece C and lay it over the side you have chosen like             shown below. Once it is in place, nail or staple it to the base.

4. Take one of the two E pieces and at a width of 4 cm make a straight line that goes across the length of the piece.  At 4 cm start     to make a semi circle cut like shown below. 

     Once finished trace the cut piece onto the uncut E piece and make an identical copy.

5. To make the lid take the D and E pieces and construct them like shown below. Nail or staple the pieces together.

6. Next attach the 6 F pieces to the top of the E pieces like shown below. Nail or staple the pieces together.

7. Cut out the two traces.

8. Attach the hinges to the bottom of the chest and to the lid of the chest like shown below.
