Model Airplane

A very realistic model airplane that is fun to play with and great to put on display. This project upcycles old pens.

Materials
  • 2 old pens (ball point pens work best)  ***make sure there is no ink left in the pen***

  • scrap paper or construction paper

  • scrap cardboard (optional)

  • glue or tape

  • plasticine (optional)

  • scissors

  • paint

Instructions

1. Take apart one of the pens... you should get parts that look like this:

2. Take the silver tip of the pen and stick it to the back end of the pen near the clip. Here, we used plasticine to stick the two              together but can use tape or glue.

3. Take the silver tip of the other pen and cut out the following three trapezoids from construction paper (or scrap paper).

4. Glue or tape these trapezoids onto the silver tip as shown below. This is the tail of the airplane.

5. Now cut out a V-shaped piece of construction paper (or scrap paper) that is about the length of the whole pen. This will make     up the wings of the airplane. We backed up the construction paper on cardboard but this is optional.

6. Insert the V-shaped cut out into the clip of the pen (from step 2).

7. Now take the ink tube of the pen and cut it into 4 pieces. ***Make sure there is no ink left in the pen***

8. Tape or glue these pieces onto the bottom of the V-shaped wing. These pieces will be the plane's engines.

9. Attach the tail piece (from step 4) to the body of the airplane. We used plasticine to attach the two pieces but you can use glue     or tape.

10. You should end up with something that looks like this:

11. Now feel free to paint and decorate your airplane any way you want. We just painted on some doors and windows. Use the           paint to hide the tape and glue from before

Finished!
